Ace Ventura: Pet Detective launched our pal Jim Carry into infinite stardom in 1994. Remember that slow pan up to Ace Ventura's face wearing that tutu when he says, "I'm ready to go in coach! Just give me a chance!" That moment along with a million others from Ace Ventura, is burned into our brains for life. Ventura was playing the role of a football crazed mental patient in order to gather clues on the lost dolphin Snowflake case, and man he put the icing on the cake when he was dancing on the lawn.
No one could have played this role like Jim Carrey (although Rick Moranis was originally cast and turned it down). Carrey actually based his entire character on a bird. From the way he elongated phrases, his hairdo, his bright clothing - everything. He actually reworked the script almost entirely as Ace Ventura was originally written as a bumbling idiot. Carrey brought us quotes like "alrighty then" from his stand up act, changed how we feel about sliding doors forever and even taught us all what Binaca was used for.
Oh, and did you know that Carry pissed off another actor on In Living Color so he spoke to him through his ass to keep the torture going? Yurp.
