This Little Shop Of Horrors "I'm Bad" quote T-shirt designs featuring Audrey II in a Maxwell House coffee can is a MUST-HAVE for any Little Shop fan. Audrey II is a GD iconic in horror movie fandom. Hell, people who have never even seen the movie or a musical theater performance will still recognize the plant in an instant. Quite the "cult classic" which is why we had to add several designs to our store. Plus, we thought having Audrey II from Little Shop of Horrors saying "I'm Bad" had a fun double meaning for MEGA FANS.
One of our favorites Little Shop Of Horrors fact here at CultSub T-Shirts is the struggle to create and manage Audrey II during the movie filming. Whether you've read about it or not, it's amazing to know how large and difficult to manage the puppet really was, especially these days when we're all so spoiled by CGI. As fans well know, Audrey II grows from a seedling to a giant man-eating plant over the course of Little Shop of Horrors. As a plant, Audrey II doesn't just sit...he sings, shimmies, and eats people alive which was quite the endeavor for Frank Oz (director). Technicians built six animatronic flytraps of varying sizes for the film. The smallest was a mere 4 inches tall and the largest stood over 12 feet. In the movies climax where Audrey was at it's largest, the plant required as many as 60 human operators.
Since Audrey II was so cumbersome, that meant the foam rubber lips couldn’t move fast enough to synch up with the audio during any of of the songs. This meant that the team needed to filming the puppets at a slower-than-average rate of 12 or 16 frames per second, then speed up the footage to the standard 24 frames per second. Frank Oz explains in many interviews that, "it was a bitch." So, whenever you see Rick Moranis (who played Seymour Krelborn) or one of the other actors singing side-by-side with the Audrey II, he/she is really lip-syncing in slow motion.
Fun Litttle Shop of Horrors nerdy fan facts, right?
